Meet Joshua!

This handsome Pomeranian was found as a stray and landed in a North Central Ohio shelter. The shelter sent him to a partner veterinarian for his neuter where it was discovered he had a significant heart murmur. Although the neuter surgery was completed, further diagnostics were highly encouraged to discover the source of his murmur. That's where Sophia’s Grace Foundation jumped in! Joshua immediately had an Echocardiogram, and the cardiologist discovered his heart defect. Something that should have been surgically corrected when still a puppy. Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). Where a fetal blood vessel of the heart fails to close after birth. The condition causes an extra burden on the heart. If untreated, it leads to congestive heart failure and a short life expectancy.

Sophia's Grace Foundation rallied immediately for his expensive surgery, with fundraising efforts to support the cost.

Joshua probably had a good life before the owner likely was told about his heart defect and the necessary surgery to make the correction. We can only assume his prior owner could not provide the care needed and he was abandoned. Joshua was otherwise a gorgeous, healthy and loyal companion dog when his foster mom met him. 

As of this bio, Joshua has recovered from the corrective surgery and had an additional Echocardiogram to verify the surgery was completely successful. His present Veterinarian and Cardiologist recommended another Echocardiogram next year. Reports will be provided to his adopter for their own continued veterinary care of Joshua.

With his surgery behind him, Joshua deserves a very special forever home. Presently he enjoys a fenced yard to run and play, he walks quite well on a lead and knows the “sit” command. 

His breed requires regular professional grooming to keep his coat smooth and handsome appearance. He is very cooperative at his grooming appointments.

Joshua’s personality can be described as very loving with his foster mom. When visitors arrive in the home, he greets them with enthusiasm. He is a Velcro boy who wants to be wherever his person is. His house manners are impeccable.

Although crate trained, he does not appreciate being left for the day when his foster mom goes to work part time. He is vocal about his displeasure. He normally sleeps quietly at night in his crate. Having said that, it's obvious to his foster, that Joshua enjoys the comfort of sharing a bed with his person. 

All foster dogs are crated for their own safety. He has never been destructive, but the barking would not be suitable for apartment living. 

Joshua shares a home in Mansfield Ohio with two female Beagles who he quickly bonded with. 

Joshua is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and

heartworm negative. He is being fostered in Mansfield, OH

and is available for an adoption fee of $400.00.
