If you aren’t looking for undivided attention and never-ending kisses, then this is not the dog for you. He is rambunctious, energetic, and seeks attention from his person more often than not. With the ladies Slinky is a happy, sweet, playful boy. But with men he is very wary and fearful – slow introductions are necessary. Because of his past, Slinky needs a very special dachshund-savvy owner.

At only 2 years old Slinky has already had two owners who did not understand his needs and resorted to crating him for the largest part of the day. Because of this he is still learning how to express the need to go outside and he needs to be on a strict schedule. Slinky is neutered, heartworm negative, UTD on vaccines, and microchipped. This handsome dappled boy has so much potential, and the perfect home will have some very specific needs to help him to unlock that potential. A home where he has someone home with him most of the day is preferred. He will need to be allowed to have a room to be confined in when his people are absent from the home – no long  hours of crate restriction due to his crate trauma. Short crate time is okay when Slinky needs to be safely confined, but it should be followed by praise and extra attention.

Slinky is very exuberant with his playtime and plays too rough for a smaller dog, so a similarly sized dog (12-15 lb) would be the perfect companion. Training classes would be beneficial to help Slinky to learn more than the basic commands that he knows, and to build his confidence and the bond with his person. A fenced yard is a must!  His energy is beyond boundless. And toys. Lots and lots of toys! Supervised feeding is necessary to avoid any squabbles over food. No cats or other small animals for this boy – they are the enemy and must be annihilated! A home with no children under 12 is recommended.

Slinky is fostered in Manassas, VA and his adoption fee is $375.00.
