Milton is a 10-year-old black & tan miniature dachshund mix (best guess is with Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) who weighs approximately 15 pounds. Milton was surrendered to rescue after he got nippy with small children at a holiday gathering. Milton was with his previous owner for 2-3 years and had been rehomed twice prior due to no fault of his own.
Milton’s previous owner stated that Milton has an average of 2 seizures per year. He is not medicated for seizures at this time but may need further evaluation if the frequency of seizures increases, per his vet. His last seizure was in his foster home in January. Milton is otherwise healthy but may need a dental in the next year or so. Milton is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccines.
Milton’s foster mom says that he is an absolute pleasure of a houseguest! He does great with same-sized dogs and LOVES to play with toys—he empties the toy bin every time that the toys are cleaned up. Milton loves to lay on the couch and snuggle his human, especially if they have a heated blanket. He sleeps quietly in the crate throughout the night and often puts himself to bed around 10pm. He would probably be happy in the big bed as well, especially since he loves
to nap with foster mom on the weekends. Milton was tested with a larger dog and did show aggression by trying to bite the dogs face. Even while crated, Milton would not quiet down knowing the larger dog was in the house. He does great with his foster siblings which include mini dachshunds and a mini aussie. Milton has not gotten close enough to the cats to truly test his reaction, but he does go up to the baby crate and bark at them persistently until they are out of sight.
Milton is housebroken and walks well on a leash. He previously lived in a home without a fenced in yard and would do well in an apartment or condo. Milton did “mark” the house for the first 3 days, but has not had any accidents. Milton is sweet as pie and would love a quiet, calm household that can provide him stability for the rest of his life. Milton was not kid-tested while in foster care, but will not be eligible for a home with children under 12 years old due to his history.
